Danny Byram grew up not only to the sounds of music, but to the sounds of US Air Force KC-135 Refueling Tanker Jets, testing their engines at 0300hrs on the nearby runways. Son of an Air Force Chaplain, his earliest musical training began by observing his mother, who served alongside her husband as the Chapel Choir director at USAF bases all over the US and Europe. "I remember Mom teaching my brother, sister & me to create vocal harmonies in the car on vacations." Danny was playing piano at age 6 and guitar by age 9. The Air Force took the family from California to Maine to Germany to Oklahoma and later to Idaho where Danny finished high school. In many ways military life prepared Danny for the life & ministry he would later be called to. Desiring to study music formally in a Christian university, he enrolled at Oral Roberts University, Tulsa, Oklahoma and studied sacred music, voice and piano. To help pay his way through college, he played guitar and sang in local restaurants and bars, much to the disapproval of his professors. "'You'll ruin your voice singing pop' they would tell me. But I was making good money, learning to work a crowd, and having a ball!" After graduating with a Bachelor Of Music degree, Danny wrote and recorded two charting country music singles, shared the stage with numerous national artists and landed a recording session in Los Angeles with The Doobie Brothers. Yet, as a Christian something was missing. "A pastor told me that my gifts were set aside for ministry." Danny left the music industry to take a 6-month sabbatical in the central Rocky Mountains of Colorado. He worked and lived at the Officers Christian Fellowship Retreat Center, Spring Canyon. Six months turned into 2 years and a whole new direction. He recorded his first Christian music CD Songs From The Canyon, began touring military installations and met – and later married Angela Hoogland. Danny and Angela have together maintained and grown Danny Byram Ministries, Inc. for 20 years. Danny has recorded 7 CDs, received national radio airplay, traveled on 5 continents giving thousands of performances and appeared on over 100 US Military Installations worldwide including flying out to Naval vessels at sea. Angela is a visual artist specializing in human figure. She also creates wreaths, dried flower arrangements and finds her part time retail position at Anthropologie in Cherry Creek Denver a much needed outlet for her creativity. She maintains a creative work studio in the basement of their home. Danny & Angela live near Evergreen, Colorado with their three children; Jeremy, Corina and Alisha. |
